Just thought that I should put in an update. I had written on here almost 9 years ago. My daughter, Courtney, who was fourteen at the time, is a survivor of severe alcohol poisoning. She had wet brain. She is doing wonderfully now. If you didn't know that something so severe had happened to her you wouldn't know it when you first meet her. Of course there are little things that I notice simply because I am her Mom. She is 23 years old now. She is engaged and runs her own private dayhome. She is incredible! We still speak about her alcohol poisoning weekly, sometimes daily. She still has memory issues, but they are becoming less and less as time passes. We are lucky. She survived. Bradley didn't. I wish that I could change things for this family. If Courtney had gone downstairs to "sleep it off" like I had yelled at her to do I would have been giving her a death sentence. Alcohol poisoning is serious....not to be taken lightly! It is deceiving because everything looks okay....until it is too late.
Also, wanted to update that my email address has changed. kimbra@telus.net. Feel free to contact me if you would like to hear the whole story. Please title your emails "Courtney's alcohol poisoning" so that I know it isn't spam(it will get deleted if I think it is spam)
Thanks and keep working towards awareness !!!!!

Listen to what Bible says about drinking.
"Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God."

I am terribly sorry for your loss and know that to this day it is still probably extremely hard for you. I am sixteen years old and just had my junior prom me and a fairly large group of friends rented a party bus for the night. I had dinner at a friends house, took pictures and all that jazz. We got on the bus for the ride to prom and we all began to drink, knowing that at the prom admin. would be breathalizing..but "that would never happen to me."(typical mentality)We didnt have shot glasses so i cant tell you exactly how much i drank but i was drinking straight from a vodka bottle for about 45 mins. When we arrived at the prom i was immediatly caught by the administrators and cops at the prom. I dont remember much from there. I began throwing up and acting violent. They called the ambulence and my mom. I went to the hospital and they got my bac from blood work and i had .26. i am 5"7 and weigh around 130. The doctors words were "she was flirting with death" I acted like a complete fool and put myself and family through hell that night. I didnt go to my prom, i am suspended for ten days off campus(i have never even been to the principals office before),i am not allowed at any dances next year including my sr. prom,i am grounded, and most of all i chanced loosing my life. Going into the night i had no plans on even getting drunk. This is not the first time i have ever drank and i never imagined the night turning out like this. i learned a life changing lesson that night and it will effect me and hopefully everyone that saw me that night for the rest of my life. there is a very fine line between having a fun night, and chancing your life. you NEVER know when it is going to happen or how serious the outcome will be. there is so many factors to how it effects you and everytime is different. Frankly no night out having fun is worth loosing your life or the life of a loved one. this website and stories like this and the comments here will hopefully impact and inform people to drink lightly and responsibly and never take your life or anyones for granit, because there is never a guaruntee for tomorrow.

As a high school senior only months away from a college campus, the idea of serious alcohol related problems has become much more relivent. The extremely fine line of having fun and being dangerous is something that needs to be adressed more and more everyday. With the information and support of sites like www.brad.org students like myself will feel much more safe and secure going off on their own for the first time.

When i was a freshman, i went out with two good friends of mine and i drank. It was the first time i had ever gotten drunk so i had no idea how much alcohol my body could take. I now know it dosent take very much alcohol to get me drunk, its about 6 shots or three beers. That night i had 16 shots. I threw up verywhere and i felt like crap, to be as blunt as i can. I was only 15 years old. My friends were responsible and called their sister to come and take me home because i couldnt drive yet, and because they had been drinking too. Im not ashamed of myself because i need to learn some how and no one could honestly tell me those things so i dont regret it. I thanked my friends so much and still do for not driving me home. Tht could have turned out very bad. Im not saying never drink but be responsile when you drink and when you start to get tipsy stop. Live and only regret when you have to. Learn things yourself and never stop praying.

My nephew, Brian, died yesterday morning, on Easter Sunday, about 7:00 a.m. after a night of drinking and vomiting. He "passed out" or "fell asleep" after vomiting, and then stopped breathing. He was 28 years old. This was a life wasted, a tragedy beyond comprehension.

I retired from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania in 2004. I was a member of the Alcohol Task Force, did educational programs in classrooms, dorms etc. And sent BRAD birthday cards when students turned 21. Since I have retired I am sorry to say no one has continued my work. Even though an Officer was assigned it. I have asked why this is and could not be given an answer. This is a true injustice to the students.Maybe if someone from this organization or MADD or SADD would question them it would get things started again.

I am so deeply sorry for your lost. I personally have never met you nor your son but I am a student from Butler high school that was recommended on coming to this website during health class. Lately we've been learning about drinking, driving while impaired, and drugs. I don't think that I could ever pick up an alcoholic beverage and become under the influence because of such devastating stories that have happened to those who have made that wrong choice. Who never knew that such a small one night wrong choice could change your life and others around you. I deeply am sorry for your lost!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry about the loss of your son, It is just really sad that we have to learn from others mistakes for it to make us realize how dangerous drinking is. May God watch over your family and help us to learn from these kinds of tragedies. GOD BLESS!!!
